travEl back in time
Dating back to the 19th century, a ‘jaunting car’ is a light, horse-drawn cart on two wheels. Hop in to take in the majestic Killarney National Park the old-fashioned way, heading down tracks that can’t be accessed by motorised traffic.
Take in some of Killarney’s most iconic sights, learn about the rich history of the National Park, and get the chance to spot Ireland’s last herd of native red deer on the route towards Ross Castle.
killArney national Park
Killarney National Park in County Kerry, Ireland, is a vast expanse of rugged countryside, home to the tallest mountain range in Ireland, the McGillycuddy’s Reeks and the world-famous Lakes of Killarney.
Some parts of the park have been mostly untouched for hundreds of years, allowing rare species of flora and fauna to thrive. Woodlands, bogs and heaths are all preserved here as part of the biosphere reserve, giving a home to Ireland’s most spectacular wildlife.

Killarney Jaunting Cars is a family business that has been providing traditional jaunting car tours of Killarney National Park for over 200 years. As well as driving jaunting cars since the 1860s, the Tangney family was entwined with the Muckross Estate, with multiple members of the family acting as Head Gamekeeper. There’s no better family to take you on a tour of the landscape and history of Killarney National Park.
