security deposit and insurance excess
About a week before you start your tour, you will be asked to supply driving licence and driving history information for each driver and to submit documents to support identity verification (e.g. passport and proofs of address) for the lead driver/booker. All drivers must meet our eligibility criteria.
pre-authorisation
As part of this process the lead driver/booker will be asked to submit their credit card information for Celtic Routes to take a pre-authorisation on your credit card for the amount of the insurance excess. It also serves as a security deposit for any outstanding charges.
The pre-authorisation is an amount that is temporarily blocked on your credit card as a guarantee during the rental period. This money is not charged, it is only blocked in your account and is released when you return the car in the same condition in which it was delivered to you, and if there are no outstanding charges (e.g. missing fuel) as outlined in your rental agreement.
Your card statement may show the amount pending throughout this period and your available credit card balance will be reduced by the amount we have pre-authorised.
In the event that we have to make a charge against this blocked amount, the balance will be released.
insurance
Subject to an insurance excess (also known as a deductible) your tour price includes fully comprehensive car insurance which offers the most extensive coverage, protecting you and your car in various situations. It covers not only damage to your vehicle but also damage to other vehicles, injuries, and property damage caused by an accident, even if you are at fault. It also includes cover for theft, vandalism, and fire damage to your car.
What is insured?
Legal liability for death or injury to any other person, including passengers
Legal liability for damage to other people’s property up to £5,000,000 / EUR 6,000,000
Loss or damage caused accidentally, or as a result of malicious damage, fire and theft up to the market value of the vehicle
Windscreen repair / replacement subject to the excess
This means you’re covered for liability, collision damage, and comprehensive/all risk coverage. There are no insurance up-sells or additional products available. Your tour price does not include travel insurance or any kind of cancellation insurance.
