Explore Cardiff

From the magnificent Cardiff Castle at the heart of the city to the harbourside restaurants of Cardiff Bay, there’s plenty to explore in this vibrant and historic city.

The Black Mountains

Discover the unspoiled scenery of the peaceful Black Mountains as you hike their dramatic peaks or stay on lower ground to explore foodie Abergavenny and the home of Welsh whisky at Penderyn Distillery.

The Brecon Beacons

Explore the rolling green hills of the Brecon Beacons on foot or take the relaxing Brecon Mountain Railway for a more laid-back experience. Don’t forget to spend time in the town of Brecon itself to discover its narrow passageways and colourful Canal Basin.

Journey to Pembrokeshire

Take the dramatic route through the Black Mountains, twisting and climbing away from the Brecon Beacons. Stop along the way to discover the history of Carreg Cennen Castle or visit the Gower Peninsula for a spot of surfing, and don’t miss the quirky town of Laugharne, the beloved home of Dylan Thomas.

Today, Pembrokeshire is your oyster. Take a three-mile walk around the whole of Caldey Island, home to an order of Cistercian monks, visit the enormous Pembroke Castle, birthplace of Henry VII, or take advantage of the majestic seascapes on scenic clifftop hikes.

The Cambrian Mountains

Wind along some of Britain’s most scenic driving routes through remote countryside as you pass through the Cambrian Mountains. Visit iconic landmarks such as Devil’s Bridge and marvel at the rich wildlife of the Elan Valley.

The Llyn Peninsula

Follow the spectacular Maddach Estuary to where it spills into the Atlantic and explore the charming bays and beaches of Barmouth and Cardigan. Soak in the beauty of picturesque seaside villages or take an exhilarating beach drive at Blackrock Sands.

Snowdonia National Park

Lace up your walking boots to hike Mount Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales, or take a leisurely ride to the summit on the Snowdon Mountain Railway. Explore the rest of the National Park to take in dramatic waterfalls, vast lakes, and dense forests.

Visit Anglesey

Explore the sweeping beaches, rugged cliffs, and bustling ports of the stunning island of Anglesey. Soak in the island’s history by visiting 700-year-old Caernarfon Castle and spot dolphins, seals, puffins and other sea life frolicking off the coast.

Coast or Mountains

Head east along the coast to Llandudno and take a scenic drive around the Great Orme Headland to explore its vast nature reserve. Or head back into the mountains through Nant Francon to discover majestic waterfalls and mountainside lakes.

Leaving Snowdonia

Bid farewell to iconic Snowdonia and head south. Follow the English/Welsh border to pass through the Shropshire Hills to the Cotswolds.

The Brecon Beacons’ vast expanses of rolling hills are a paradise for serious hikers and gentle strollers alike. Take on the 886m Pen-y-Fan to conquer the highest point in the south of Britain, or enjoy a less challenging walk around the Taff Trail, tracing the valley basin.

Make time to explore the town of Brecon, wandering narrow streets and passageways lined with Georgian and Jacobean shopfronts. Then take the Brecon Mountain Railway high into the peaks to follow the full length of the glorious Taf Fechan Reservoir.

Stunning beaches and scenic clifftop walks are some of the highlights of the Pembrokeshire coast. Nature lovers will enjoy exploring the protected island reserves and near-vertical cliff faces, while history buffs will delight in the many castles scattered across Pembrokeshire. This includes the vast Pembroke Castle, birthplace of Henry VII who was the founder of the Tudor Dynasty and Britain’s only Welsh king.

Snowdonia National Park is home to the majestic Mount Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales. There are many ways to explore this stunning landmark, from the devilishly steep Watkin Path climb to the relaxing Snowdon Mountain Railway ride. 

But there’s plenty to explore here aside from Mount Snowdon. From the breathtaking waterfalls on the Aardu River to the historic Blaenau Ffestiniog, ‘city of slate’, take time to discover the vast landscape of Snowdonia National Park.
