Arrival

Stay on the outskirts of the Brecon Beacons National Park and take the chance to visit Caerphilly Castle, one of the great fortresses of medieval Europe and the second largest in Britain.

Explore The Brecon Beacons

Trace some of the best driving roads in the UK, dotted with charming market towns. Visit Brecon itself, following the Brecon Canal to foodie Abergavenny, or visit the home of Welsh whisky at Penderyn Distillery.

Dylan Thomas’ Wales

Take the dramatic route through the Black Mountains Pass to the quirky Laugharne, the beloved home of Dylan Thomas. Visit his favourite pub, Brown’s, and the Boathouse where he lived from 1949 to 1953.

Pembrokeshire Coast National Park

Experience Pembrokeshire’s clifftop walks and dramatic coastline before turning inland. Visit Pembroke Castle, the birthplace of Henry VI, founder of the Tudor Dynasty and Britain’s only Welsh King.

Wind north

Head northwards following the stunning coastline or winding through the rolling hills of the Cambrian Mountains. Explore the Elan Valley’s vast wildlife habitats before continuing your route along Cardigan Bay.

Coastal adventures

Follow the spectacular Mawddach Estuary where it spills into the Atlantic and explore the charming bays and beaches of Barmouth and Cardigan. Take on one of the only two legal beach drives in the UK at Black Rock Sands, then toast your day with a drink in one of our favourite seaside pubs.

Explore Anglesey

Visit the magnificent Carnaforn Castle – widely regarded as one of the greatest buildings of the Middle Ages – then cross the Menai Straits to Anglesey to enjoy bustling ports, tiny fishing coves, and abundant wildlife of this scenic island.

Snowdonia National Park

Lace up your hiking boots to hike up the iconic Mount Snowdon, or take the more leisurely route on the historic Snowdon Mountain Railway. Then head to Blaenau Ffestiniog to explore the caves of the former slate works.

Departure

Head back home through Snowdonia or take a detour to Llandudno for a scenic drive around the Great Orme Headland where you can take a vintage tram up 15,000 feet through its nature reserve.

Head into the ancient hills of Brecon and take the heritage mountain steam railway following the full length of the Taf Fechan Reservoir. Explore the charming market town of Brecon and follow the Brecon Canal to Abergavenny, nestled below Sugar Loaf Mountain.

Explore the twisting passageways and underground waterfalls of the National Show Caves, then sample award-winning single malt whiskies and Brecon gin at Penderyn Distillery.

pEmbrokeshire coAst natiOnal park

Explore the wonder-filled coast of Pembrokeshire, taking in stunning beaches and stunning clifftop walks. Take boat rides to protected island nature reserves and ancient castles, or walk along Manorbier Beach with its castle ruins overlooking the sea.

Venture to the tiny St Govan’s chapel which sits in a fissure in the cliffs, then continue to the Huntsman’s Leap, a spectacular gash in the cliffs with near-vertical walls that’s famed as one of Britain’s best sea cliff climbing locations.

Home to Mount Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales, Snowdonia National Park offers stunning skylines and panoramic views. The area’s culture and landscape have been shaped heavily by the slate industry, which you can explore in depth in the caves of Blaenau Ffestiniog.

End the day by tracing the journey of slate on the famous Ffestiniog railway that trundles 13.5 scenic miles from the mountains to the harbour in Porthmadog.
