A road trip is the perfect way to experience a country, see different facets of its culture, and explore its remote areas. But to get there, you need a reliable vehicle that can handle the roads and terrain – and there’s no better option for this than a Land Rover.
A central ethos at Celtic Routes is that your holiday is your own. Nobody else’s. It’s no surprise therefore that we believe that you should leave that tour bus behind. That you should travel independently, but with the support of our many years of research and experience, at your own pace, and with the flexibility to change your day based on your mood or interest. That’s why we’re focused on self-driving tours or road trips, and why we only use Land Rovers.
Here are just a few reasons why a Land Rover is truly the best vehicle for any adventure.
unstoppable off-road capabilities – go anywhere in a land rover
The most important attribute of any off-road vehicle is its ability to tackle tough terrain without breaking down, getting stuck or succumbing to premature wear and tear. And this is where the Land Rover excels.
Land Rovers are famed for their off-road capabilities, and from the earliest Defenders to the latest Range Rover, Land Rovers are class-leading in their ability to get off-road. Popular with the military and explorers alike, Land Rovers are synonymous with adventure and have been taken to some of the most inhospitable and remote places on our planet. This is what they are designed to do.

Put a Land Rover through its paces at the Land Rover Experience
From simple factors such as ground clearance, wade depth, the quality of their off-road tyres and their suspension set-up, to sophisticated mechanical and electronic tools like the new All Terrain Progress Control – Land Rovers are designed from the ground up to be highly capable off-road.
You don’t need an off-road vehicle for a road trip. But having the ability to get off the beaten track adds to the sense of adventure. Take that forest track, venture down to the deserted beach, and be curious about that mystery dirt road. If you want to really explore the last truly wild places in the British Isles, you probably are going to need to venture down unpaved roads, get muddy, and dare to get stuck.
And for those who do want to put their Land Rovers through their paces, there are plenty of incredible green lanes or “off-road” tracks in the UK and Ireland. But your vehicle is only 50% of the equation. And even with a highly capable Land Rover, you may come unstuck – or maybe even stuck – if you don’t have the skills to get the most out of the vehicle. That’s why we highly recommend our clients to take the Land Rover Experience on the first day of their tour.
luxury inside and out – travel in style in a land rover

A road trip is about more than just getting from point A to point B quickly; it’s about enjoying the ride along the way. You don’t want to spend a week or two cramped into an eco-box from a regular rental company. You want to travel in style and comfort, to stretch out and relax. This is a holiday after all.
And with a Land Rover, luxury comes standard both inside and out. Its plush leather seating ensures comfort during even the longest of journeys, while impressive amenities like heated seats and steering wheels provide extra cosiness during cooler months. Whilst at the height of summer you will appreciate the ice-cold air conditioning, and in many vehicles, there are also cooled seats!
The air suspension will provide an almost magic carpet-like ride over even the bumpiest of roads, and the incredible
On a road trip, enjoying the view is critical and the ride hide and fantastic view from a Land Rover cabin are perfect for enjoying that stunning scenery as you pass incredible mountains, lochs and rugged coastlines. Many of our vehicles have panoramic sunroofs which provide a brilliant perspective on those Scottish mountains.
space and comfort – land rovers are perfect for road trips
When you’re visiting Scotland, Wales and Ireland, you need to pack for four seasons in one day. It can be boiling hot one moment and raining the next. That’s part of the raw beauty and charm of these remote places. You may be doing multiple activities and need lots of different clothing and equipment.

All our vehicles come equipped with picnic equipment
So you don’t want to pack light. A Land Rover gives you an enormous boot without compromising on passenger space. The Land Rover Defender has a little under 1,000 litres of boot capacity with five seats up, whilst the Land Rover Discovery has a cavernous 1,137 litres with five seats in use.
Most of our Land Rovers have seven seats and the Discovery has two full-size seats with normal legroom in the boot. You can even configure the Discovery with just one rear seat up giving half the boot space and loads of passenger room. This makes them perfect for families and larger groups who need space but don’t want to compromise on style, luxury, or off-road ability.
All of our vehicles come equipped with roof racks meaning that additional luggage and equipment (kayaks, bikes) can be carried.
iconic british brand – why drive anything less?
Land Rover is an iconic British brand loved around the world from farmers to royalty. Queen Elizabeth II had a love affair with Land Rover – and for good reason. What started as an agricultural stop-gap for the post-war era, has evolved into a pioneering brand associated with adventure and expeditions as much as utility and practicality.
Today, the latest generation of Defender, Discovery, and Range Rover combine the ability to go anywhere with varying degrees of luxury, refinement and practicality. But what they share in common is a sense of style and occasion. You don’t drive a Land Rover. You go on a journey in a Land Rover. The drive is very much a part of the adventure as the destination itself.
What better way to holiday and explore Scotland, Wales, and Ireland than in a vehicle from this iconic British brand?
advanced safety features – keeping you safe
Land Rovers are hard to miss. They also provide great visibility. And their off-road abilities mean that you can easily pull to the side even if that means getting muddy on the grass verge on a single-track road.
Safety should always be a top concern when taking a road trip – after all, the last thing you want is to worry about your safety while exploring somewhere new. But when you’re in a foreign environment, potentially driving on a different side of the road, you’ll be glad to be in an incredibly safe vehicle.
Luckily with a Land Rover, you don’t have to worry – its advanced suite of driver assistance systems provides helpful warnings in case of potential hazards on the road ahead. This includes lane departure warnings that alert you when your car drifts out of its lane; blind spot monitoring that helps detect objects in hard-to-see areas; adaptive cruise control which automatically maintains safe distances from vehicles ahead; and much more!
if you’re going on a road trip – it must be a land rover
A road trip requires reliable transportation – but thanks to its unstoppable off-road capabilities, luxurious interior, and advanced safety features, a Land Rover offers everything any driver needs for their next adventure. So whether you’re hitting dirt roads or cruising highways, rest assured knowing your trusty Land Rover will take care of every mile!
